Words by Elvis Thirlwell
With a beat of frolicing electronica issuing a greater insistence than witnessed in its balladic precursor 'My God', single no.2 from south-east London pop-folkers Tapir! offers no less a the sensation of wondrous blue-skying daydream.
'On a grassy Knoll (We'll Bow Together)' has Home-brewed loveliness steaming out its every pore; has twinkles, sparks and other production succulencies cosseting your ears in a masses of pillowy velvet. A continued presence of abstract red-helmeted 'pilgrims' breathes again its mysteriously delicate charms, and wheatfield-crisp voice of Isaac Gray plucks melodies from the expansive oases of time.
If i could hang-dry the cockle-warming essences of this track, and infuse the results in water-full ceramic teapot - just in the nick of bedtime - to usher in the blessings of blissful dreams... believe you me I would. But such are the cruel parameters of our humanoid perceptions that i must be content with a wav file stream and all its intangible magic it opens.
