Here ye, Here ye!
Today, Siblings: a South London alt-indie-folk band come to us with two hyphens and their new single “In The Middle Of The Night.”This is an uptempo number about promises of love in the vein of Bread by way of Kevin Parker, which now that I think about it might be easier just to say José González.
Nothing’s that surprising in this track, but that’s its own kind of impressive.
Keeping something simple and still having it be good is an almost-lost-art as far as I’m
concerned. Write words that a year 6 kid could crack but put ‘em in an order that makes me cry, progressions we know (and we know that we know), ride that line between slipping convention in deliberately and turning off a listener with laziness. That is to say, I appreciate this kind of writing.

Recorded at Strange Melody Recording It’s spacey and acoustically driven with a slight voice
that floats above the foundations. The chorus is a nice lift, a hooky chant in an ‘end of a coming of age film’ type’a way. Tasteful use of a saxophone always appreciated.
Writer Theo DW says “It’s a love song, like a hand reaching out across the water, written for my partner, Juliette. The chorus came first and then, after some soul-searching, the verses wrote themselves.”
The video, shot by Aubrey Simpson is a fun bit of CRT psychedelia, very 90s blue screen. Good fit.
Keep up to date with Siblings
